The Spanish mastiff is one of the biggest dogs in the world. This dog is massive, very high and at the same time very proportional.

Determined standard for Spanish mastiff is minimum 77 cm for dogs and 72 cm for bitches, without determining of the upper limit, but they usually don't cross 90 cm. They weigh 60-90 kilos, although there occur dogs crossing 90 cm and weighing about 120 kilos (!!!).

Head big, wide and shapely, chest powerful, spine straight and rump higher than buttocks. On the dewlap characteristic folds of skin (the bigger the better).

Spanish mastiff is extremely self-confident, tough and absolute in defence. With relation to strangers he is distrustful and even aggressive. Massif is also incredibly attached to his master. It demonstrates obedience to him and won't pull back from defending him.

Mastiff is an ideal guardian with perfect hearing and fantastic vigilance. His voice is characteristically hoarse, strong, menacing with deep tone. His fur is thick. Its colour is of no importance, however the most valuable is the gold one, black or fawn. Mastiff doesn't need special tending. It likes wide-open spaces and tolerates the weather conditions very well.
